Ilari Henrik Aegerter

HOUSE OF TEST, SWITZERLAND

BIO

Ilari Henrik Aegerter’s formal studies have brought him from General Linguistics and Sociology to Software Engineering and Software Testing. He has 10+ years of experience in the field, coming from the medical software domain at Phonak AG and progressing to e-commerce at eBay.

He is now the Managing Director of House of Test GmbH and he believes that there is still a lot of work to be done for excellent software testing. In 2013 he co-founded the International Society for Software Testing (ISST), which advocates for bringing back common sense to testing. He is currently president of the organisation. In 2015 he was elected to the board of the Association for Software Testing (AST) where he acts as VP of Marketing.

Topic: Testing History from the Caveman

Most of our activities in Software Testing are happening in the present. We try to solve problems we are facing. We adapt our strategies to insights we gain as we go. We constantly reinvent. What we rarely do, is to look back in history to see if there are insights that we can use from far back.

A far too large share of Test Engineers have never heard of people like Glenford Myers, Boris Beizer or Gerald Weinberg. One could argue that people from the past of Software Testing are no longer relevant as things are moving so fast. But is that assumption true? Or could it be that there is value in spending time in the history of software testing?

This keynote is an exploration into the past of dusty old books, ancient ideas and insights that still have value today. Ilari Henrik Aegerter talks about problems we face over and over again, which were solved 50 years ago, but forgotten again. The keynote will be a mix of exploration into the past, ranting about stupidities and sprinkled with some jokes here and there.
